Unlocking Vocabulary Comprehension in Informational Texts
Tuesday November 5, 2024 1:00pm - 2:00pm EST
You ever see a word in an informational text and think, "This word is going to be too tough for my students." You may be at a loss for how to teach that word other than just giving them the definition. However, there is a way to provide students access to the meaning without just giving the definition. In this session we will focus on identifying challenging vocabulary terms in an informational text and through using the morphology of the word, whole brain teaching methods, leveraging text features and context, and student focused definitions, we can provide students with strategies and access to meaning that help create better readers. Intended audience: 3-6 Grade.
