Many teachers today are making a transition from guided reading groups to skill-based small groups. This session will offer one model for small group instruction in the primary grades–and for students in the intermediate grades with significant gaps in phonics. Participants will witness a small group lesson and its various components. You will also gain access to some resources you can use for planning and implementing small group instruction in your own classroom. In addition to phonics, the session will consider ways to incorporate vocabulary, comprehension, and oral language development. Intended audience: 1-4 Grade.
In this session, we will discuss how to develop a theater club at your school. We began this three years ago at McClelland and have had around 100 students interested in participating each year. We have put on productions of Willy Wonka Kids, Frozen Kids, and are currently working on Annie Kids. We will go through our process for auditioning, rehearsals, coordinating with the high school to use their theater, fundraising, etc. We have seen so many students blossom being a part of this and would love to share it with you! Intended audience: 3-6 Grade.
